How should I prepare for my newborn session?

Congratulations on your little bundle of joy! I understand what an exciting and exhausting time this is. With a few quick tips, your newborn session will be a smooth, relaxing, and a memorable occasion.

Book early

Booking while you are between 25 and 30 weeks pregnant is a good idea. That way you are on my calendar and if your baby decides to make an early appearance,  we can simply adjust your booked date. Likewise, if they are a late arrival, we simply adjust the already booked date. I save space with this intention of adjusting to your baby’s actual arrival. I reserve a very limited number of due dates on my calendar each week to save space for adjustments. Once those spots are gone, I am booked and won’t be able to take on anyone else. For this reason it is so important to book early and reserve your space.

Have neutral blankets

You will want several blankets washed and ready. Neutral colors are preferable. Pink, blue, yellow, and green blankets are adorable but can cast color onto your baby's skin. That is why we try to stick to neutrals. That being said, if you have a blanket or other item that is special for one reason or another, let me know and we will do our best to incorporate it into your session.

Keep the space warmer

Newborns have not gained enough weight to properly and consistently regulate their body heat. So it is nice to keep the space a little warmer than normal, especially while your baby is in just a diaper.

No need to clean

Hear that again. You do not need to clean! I bring a small set up and your house will not show in the portraits. You are wiped out and do not need anything extra on your plate.

Make yourself some tea

Again, I know you are exhausted. During the session, please feel free to make yourself a cup of tea, put your feet up, relax and enjoy as your session unfolds.
